Nobody would be allowed to supply spurious drugs: Shabir

JAMMU: The government today decided to upgrade the drug testing Laboratories in twin capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu to facilitate speedy testing of drugs.
The decision in this regard was taken at a high level meeting, chaired by Minister of State for Health, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan held here today.
Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Mr. M K Dewedi, Secretary LAW, Mr. G H Tantary, Director Health Services, Jammu and Deputy Controllers of Drugs and Food Organization of Kashmir and Jammu Provinces attended the meeting.
The up gradation of this Drug testing Labs would come in force during current fiscal, for the purpose funds would be allocated under State plan, the meeting decided. It was also resolved that till the up gradation of these Drugs testing Laboratories ‘is done, the existing drug Laboratories would function in double shifts and concerned authorities of Drug and Food Organization would ensure drug testing of different samples of medicines in time bound manner to evade supply of spurious drugs to the health institutions of the State.
Health Minister has passed the direction to the concerned authorities that drugs without testing from the competent authority should not be distributed for issuance of patient care.
The meeting also decided for empanelment of private and public standard Laboratories’ approved by the Government for expediting the testing process of drugs and enhancement of the capacity of drugs and food articles multifold. Issue in this regard has already been taken with the Union Health Ministry.
The meeting also took decision that Drug Controller Organization shall issue Expression of Interest and decides standard terms and conditions for empanelment and accordingly these laboratories shall be notified proper procedure in a time bound manner.
It was decided that progress in this regard should be submitted to the Administrative department on weekly basis.
The meeting also discussed strengthening of Drug Control Organization and it was decided that the concerned authorities of the Organization would submit a proposal for approval of the Government.
Health Minister instructed concerned authorities that who so ever is found involved in supplying of spurious drugs should be not be spared and stringent action should be taken against him. He directed that it should be ensured that such drugs not be used at any cost.
The meeting also decided that Legal Cell of the Organization would be strengthened for speedy law enforcement.
