DC KULGAM for readying wherewithal in view of incessant rains

KULGAM: Stressing the need for forging complete synergy, Deputy Commissioner, Jahangir Mir today called for readying men and machinery in view of incessant rains that may result in floods.
Chairing a meeting of District Disaster Management Committee this morning here, he called for taking precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and property in case of floods. For the purpose people have been asked to intimate Police Control Room on phone No. 01931-260160 in case of emergency.
The Fire & Emergency Services Department has been directed to keep all where withal in a state of complete readiness. The Assistant Director concerned was asked to remain in touch with mountaineering Division, Pahalgam for securing their assistance in case the need arises.
The Executive Engineer Flood control Division has been asked to deploy its field staff at flood monitoring points as well as in flood prone areas for monitoring water flow in the rivers and share the data with the Nodal Officer for appropriate measures.
Chief Medical Officer was directed to keep medical teams alongwith necessary medicines ready, while the Executive Engineer Public Health Engineering Department was asked to ensure chlorination of water to prevent outbreak of diseases following likelihood of contamination of drinking water resources. The Power Development Department was asked to keep generators in fit condition for use in any evacuation operation.
Tehsildars were asked to remain in alert position and in touch with concerned police stations. Executive Officers of the district were asked to ensure sanitation in all the towns and to take steps for removal of any bottlenecks which may lead to blockage of drains to prevent inundation of roads.
The meeting after threadbare discussion identified Govt. buildings especially schools, should the need for evacuation of people living in low lying areas arises.
Additional Deputy Commissioner was asked to make requisition for 15 tents from State Red Cross Society as a stand-by arrangement. It was decided that assistance of Auxiliary Police will also be secured on need basis in case of any eventuality.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Nodal Officer), SP Kulgam, Assistant Commissioner (Rev), Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Executive Engineer PHE, Executive Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control, Assistant Director CA&PD, Assistant Director, Fire & Emergency Services and several other officers.
