Centre releases Rs 2.63 cr for development of slum basties: Bhalla
Bhalla, Rana pay tributes to B R Ambedkar

JAMMU: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Mr. Raman Bhalla has said that Centre has released Rs. 2.63 crore under Rajiv Awas Yojna (RAY) for upgradation and improvement of basic amenities in slum basties of the State adding that in this regard the necessary instructions have been issued to the concerned executing agency for taking up the necessary developmental works at these basties.
Addressing a largely public attended gathering today at Rajiv Nagar after inaugurating macadamization work on Rajiv Nagar-Rahim Nagar link road here today, Mr. Bhalla said that Rs 55 lakh have been earmarked for upgradation for construction of Rajiv Mr. Bhalla informed the gathering that Government has earmarked Rs. 55 lakh Rajiv Nagar-Rahim Nagar via Krayani Talab link road and construction of surface drain in both sides from Rajiv Nagar Narwal to Krayani Talab.
The Minister said that in order to protect the property of the inhabitants of the area from flash floods during monsoon, Rs 55 lakh have been allocated to R&B department for construction of deep drains and protection walls on both sides of the Nallah passed through the area.
Mr. Bhalla further said that Government is making all out efforts to upgrade the living condition of the slum dwellers by providing all basic amenities like road connectivity, safe drinking water, pacca houses, electricity, education, health besides better lanes and drains. He said Government was very keen to tackle the problems of slums in a definitive manner under RAY scheme. He said Central and State Governments were committed to improve the living condition of homeless.
The Minister said slum areas would soon have all civic facilities for which a survey by IPGE is being conducted under the RAY.
Mr Bhalla appealed the people that don’t dump building debris in nallahs and internal lanes as such practices faces inconvenience to the public especially during rainy season.
Listing the measures taken by the Government in Rajiv Nagar, the Minister said Government has spent Rs. 26 lakh for up-gradation of lanes and drains. He directed concerned officers of PDD for taking necessary steps for providing electricity facilities to uncovered basties of the area. He also issued instructions for increasing the height of installed poles and replacement of worn-out wires to avoid the untoward incident.
Later, as a part of 122nd birth anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar, a function was held at Shree Ravi Dass Ji temple at Krishna Nagar where, Mr Bhalla was Chief guest and Member Legislative Council, Mr. Devinder Singh Rana presided over the function.
Mr. Bhalla, while paying rich tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar on his birth anniversary said that Dr Ambedkar was an outstanding legal luminary who made great contribution in preparation of Indian Constitution.
The Minister recalled Dr Ambedkar's contributions towards nation building in the various fields, particularly to uplift the living standard of weaker sections of the society.
MLC, Mr. Devinder Rana while paying tributes to late Dr. Ambedkar on his 122nd birth anniversary threw detailed light on the life, workings and contributions of this great personality who throughout his life worked for nation building adding that Dr Ambedkar was an architect of Indian Constitution who always worked for prosperity of the Country.
