| Kolkata police chief refuses to meet a left delegeation to accept a memoranda | | | KOLKATA: CPI-M politburo member and West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose said on Friday that the Kolkata Police commissioner Surajit Kar Purokayastha had refused to meet a Left Front delegation and receive a memorandum on law and order, which he said was 'undemocratic'.
Stating that party delegations had submitted memoranda to district magistrates on law and order, Left Front chairman Biman Bose said that in Kolkata district it was decided to submit it to the Commissioner of Kolkata Police SK Purakyastha.
Bose said that they had contacted the city police chief to meet him and submit a memorandum on the city's law and order situation. ""But the commissioner told us that it is not possible for him to meet any delegation from the Left Front. But he was ready to meet each of us individually. We don't know what kind of democracy is prevailing in our state. Our chief minister had promised to bring an end to partyrule. But her police chief has refused to meet any delegation from the opposition party. Is this a democracy ?,"" asked Bose.
Meanwhile, Left youth organisations will hold a rally in Kolkata on April 25 and try to assemble at the state administrative headquarters in Writers' Buildings. The Left organisations will demand a judicial inquiry into the death of their leader Sudipto Gupta in the police custody earlier this month. |
