Ramzan reviews functioning of CA&PD, Transport deptts in Kathua

kathua, Apr 22: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) and Transport Choudhary Ramzan today chaired a meeting of the officers of CA&PD and Transport departments of district Kathua .
The meeting was also attended by MLA Kathua Charanjeet Singh, MLA Bani Master Lal Chand, MLA Basohli Jagdish Raj Sapolia, MLA Hiranagar Durga Dass, and MLC Subash Gupta.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kathua through a power point Presentation briefed the Minister about the number of the vehicles registered in the district, vehicles entering the state and revenue collected at the entry points including fine imposed on Goods carriage vehicles for overloading etc.
MLAs and MLC also spoke on the occasion and raised various demands related to their respective constituencies. These were mainly related to distribution and increase in the ration quota, plying of public transport on different routes etc.
Representatives of different parties, organizations, NGOs and prominent citizens present also highlighted issues of public importance.
Choudhary Ramzan, while speaking on the occasion, said that government has decided to open 172 new gas agencies at Block, Tehsil and District levels for smooth distribution of LPG supply in the state. He added that directions have been issued to ensure distribution of LPG cylinder through home delivery in towns also from 1st June’2013. He said stern action will be taken against the erring gas agencies.
The minister said consumers’ interests were of paramount importance, thus to redress their complaints a Functional Consumer Forum will be constituted at district levels comprising District Session Judge and 2 other members nominated by the District Judge.
The Minister directed DDC to convene monthly meeting regarding consumer affairs with the functionaries of the concerned departments and elected representatives of the area to keep check on adulteration, black marketing and overcharging.
Ch Ramzan also passed directions to General Manager JKSRTC to restart Corporation bus service on all the old routes and also identify more viable routes.
On the issue of deficiency in Ration quota for Kathua district, the minister said the ration is supplied as per the scale for the consumers covered under 2001 census. He disclosed that 26 lac consumers have been added since 2001 and the state government has taken up the matter of additional grant of ration with the central government.
Minister issued the directions to the RTO to clear the pendency in the issuance of driving licenses at the earliest.
Joint Transport Commissioner Jammu, Sheikh Fayaz, Director Food Supplies Jammu G.S Chib, District Development Commissioner Kathua, Jatinder Kumar Singh, ADDC Kathua Ajay Singh Jamwal G.M JKSRTC R.S Jamwal and others prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
