| Sagar for transparency in the implementation of flagship programmes | | | Srinagar: The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today stressed for ensuring transparency in the implementation of centrally sponsored flagship programmes besides emphasized that for identification of the deserving beneficiaries Panchayat Raj Institutions approved by Graham Sabah and Dehi Majalises shall be involved. He also directed for updating IAY waiting lists and asked for giving wide publicity to the updated lists through print and electronic media besides displaying at conspicuous places in respective Panchayats for the awareness of the people. He also enjoined upon the officers to make the payments among beneficiaries through invoice system directly into their banks accounts. This was stated by the Minister while chairing a review meeting of Rural Development Flagship Programmes being implemented in Kashmir division. Among others, Additional District Development Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Development, officers of District Rural Development Agency from all the districts of Valley besides from Leh and Kargil districts. Director Rural Development, Mir Altaf also attended the meeting. It was given out in the meeting that against 59217 works under taken during previous fiscal Rs. 405 crore have been expended in the Kashmir division, out of which 43036 works have been completed and 175 lakh mandays were generated during the execution of these works. It was also informed that as many as 529912 job cards were issued and 24819 families were provided 100 days work. Under IAY, as many as 26611 houses were taken up for construction and upgradation, out of which 15314 houses for BPL families were completed involving an expenditure of Rs. 57.35 crore during previous financial year. Regarding the construction of Panchayats, the Minister was informed that 1130 Panchayats shall be constructed in Kashmir division and the construction of 32 Panchayats has already been completed besides as many as 7486 entrepreneurs have been registered and 4208 income generating units have been set up for which Rs. 5.58 crore have been disbursed among the unit holders during the previous fiscal. Mr. Sagar exhorted upon the officers to utilize the funds for the development projects judiciously and ensure that the targets are achieved within stipulated time for which they have to work with dedication and bring transparency in the implementation of development works. Later, a number of deputations from various parts of the Valley called on the Minister and put forth their demands on the occasion. The Minister gave them patient hearing and assured that their grievances shall be redressed on priority.
