Govt. takes several new initiatives to maintain quality control of drugs: Shabir

JAMMU, Apr 23: With a view to bring more transparency and accountability for ensuring quality supply of drugs for patient care in the State, the Government take some new initiatives for immediate implementation and enforcement by the concerned authorities.
In this regard a high level officers meeting of Drug Organization & Health Department held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Health, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan here on Tuesday.
The meeting discussed threads bare several issues and take decisions for streamlining the functioning of health services.
Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education, Mr. M. K Deweidi, Special Secretary Health and Medical Education, Mr.ArifUllah, Director ISM, Dr. Abdul Kabir, Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. MadhuKullhar, Director NRHM Dr. Yash Paul Sharma Controller Drugs and Food Organization, Mr. Satish Gupta, Joint Director Planning, Financial Advisor Health, Deputy Drug Controllers, Drug Analysts Kashmir and Jammu Divisions were among others attended the meeting.
Giving the details, the Health Minister said providing quality health care facilities to the people of the State was top most priority of the Government adding that nobody would be allowed to play with the lives of the people. "Anyone found involved in heinous crime for supplying of fake drugs or low standard diagnostic equipment's or negligence in delivering patient care in the health institutions would be dealt with stringent action and be booked behind bars under the law .
The Health Minister said that Drug Testing Laboratories at Srinagar and Jammu would be upgraded this year.
He said besides installation of modern drug testing equipment's qualified drug analysts would posted to speed up the drug testing in these laboratories. He said the existing drug testing Laboratories would be made given fixed target of drug testing annually.
The Health Minister said that a rapid alert system would be initiated to check further consumption of sub-standard or counterfeit drugs. He said Intelligence cum Legal cell would be set up in the Drug and Food Organization. He said Drug and Therapeutics committees in all secondary and tertiary health Institutions would be formulated to review drug utilization and promotional of rational use of drugs.
The Health Minister said that steps would be also taken for computerization of the working of Drug and Food Organization to provide better data base system for public information adding that proper storage facility for drugs would be also created in the Health Institutions. He said better traceability of drug distribution would be also ensured in the Health Institution.
