JAMMU: District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Ajeet Kumar Sahu, today asked District Red Cross Society (DRCS) Jammu to rope in various voluntary organizations with the Red Cross Movement for extending better and effective service to the people in distress. District Development Commissioner Jammu, , who is also the Chairman of District Red Cross Society, Jammu, was the chief guest at a function organized by Alexander Memorial School (AMS) to mark the World Red Cross Day. Among others, renowned Educationist Mr. I.D. Sony, besides Mr. Jugal Kishore Mahajan, Mr. Dinesh Gupta, Mr. O.P Gupta, Mr. Vijay Gupta, Mr. Rajinder Sharma, faculty members, students and prominent citizens were present on the occasion. Congratulating the Regional Red Cross Society on World Red Cross Day, the DDC said that this day is celebrated all over the nation on May 8 as a mark of respect to Sir Jeans Henry Dunant, the founder of Red Cross Movement adding that Red Cross Movement is protective mission founded on the principles of volunteerism and selfless service. He underlined the need to rope in other organizations like Civil Defense, Scouts and Guides etc with Red Cross Society for getting optimum and viable results through joint efforts. He apprised that Jammu Red Cross Society is one of the best societies of the state and said that to move forward the Red Cross Movement there is need to imbibe self discipline in civil society. He emphasized the role and efforts of the Red Cross volunteers in saving lives and aiding the society. Mr Sahu said that Red Cross have played a pivotal role during man made on natural disasters occurred in the state and country. He informed the gathering that Red Cross Societies are working worldwide to provide relief to mankind distressed due to disease, famine, disaster or war. He lauded the role of school management for organizing such mega event. The DDC also distributed Life Membership Certificates among the Red Cross Volunteers and campers of Kurukshetra Camp organized by JRC Red Cross Society. He also distributed prizes among the symposium winners organized last year on the theme YOUTH ON THE MOVE. Prabjot Kour of Government Gandhi Nagar College for Women was given first prize while second prize was bagged by Kailash Gupta and third Prize by Aneet Kour of GDC Gandhi Nagar respectively. A special cash prize was presented to Rahul Matto for his best performance as tabla player. Cultural items were also presented by the school children which spell bound the audience.
