Students rally taken out to mark WRCD at Udhampur

UDHAMPUR: To mark the Red Cross Day (WRCD), the District Red Cross Society Udhampur, in collaboration of Education Department today organized a rally to highlight the contributions of Red Cross Society in saving lives and assisting vulnerable people around the world.
The rally was taken out from the premises of Government Higher Secondary School and after passing through the main markets of the town culminated at Deputy Commissioner’s office.
As many as 350 students drawn from various educational institutions participated in the rally.
Ms. Deepti Uppal, IAS Probationer and Superintendent of Police, Mr. Benam Tosh jointly flagged off the rally.
While speaking on the occasion, Ms Deepti appreciated the efforts of Red Cross Society for holding such events to disseminate the message of Red Cross society. This type of activities would definitely go a long way to inspire young generation to extend helping hand to the needy persons, besides maintaining peace and harmony, she added.
She called upon the students to come forward to imbibe the principle of Red Cross Movement and contribute towards saving the valuable human lives and carry out the lifesaving mandate of the society forward.
SP, Mr. Benam Tosh also highlighted the importance of the Red Cross Day and urged upon the stakeholders to strengthen the noble movement by involving more and more people. He assured the society all possible help and support from the Police Department.
The Secretary, Red Cross Society Udhampur, Dr. V.P Sharma gave a detailed account of activities of the society carried out during the last fiscal.
Among others, Chief Education Officer, Mr Bupinder Singh, Executive and Life Members of Red Cross Society, Staff and Students of the educational institutions were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, World Red Cross Day was celebrated by the District Red Cross Society Samba in the Premises of Higher Secondary School Vijaypur in collaboration with The Health Dept., Education department and Social welfare Department.
About 200 students and Anganwari workers participated in the function.
On the occasion, R.K Varma, DDC Samba (chairman District Red Cross Society), spoke about the mission and role played by the Indian Red Cross Society at the times of war ,epidemics, natural calamities etc. The DDC impressed upon the teachers to inculcate these values among the students and encourage them to join the Red Cross movement.
Dr. Shivani Mehta, resource person, briefed about the role and activities of the Red Cross movement and said that the Indian Red Cross society, is a voluntary humanitarian organization having a network of over 700 branches throughout India, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promoting health and care of the vulnerable people and communities.
It was informed that World Red Cross Day is celebrated each year, in honor of Henry Dunant, who founded the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement nearly 150 years ago. Dr.Sunita Puri also delivered a lecture about the Personal Hygiene and Nutrition and asked the teachers to educate them properly about the same during the morning assembly. Chief Medical Officer, Samba Dr.Subash, Chief Education Officer Samba, Ravi Dubey also spoke on the occasion.
