SRINAGAR, May 13: In order to strengthen the steps being taken by the government in empowering the women in the State and also improving the socio-economic conditions of women folk, the Minister for Social Welfare Department, today chaired first high level meeting of the members of the Governing Body of Jammu and Kashmir Women Empowerment Society.
The meeting discussed threadbare various agenda points, including Setting up of the State resource Centre for women, engagement of Staff for State Resource Centre, Budget for State Resource Centre for Women.
The meeting also discussed agenda about identification of districts for implementation of Pilot convergence model “Poorna Shakti Kendras(PSK)’’ in the State, setting up of two One Stop crises centres for women(OSCC) organizing of seminars/awareness programmes and workshops, Project proposal for conducting survey about the cause of declining sex ratio in the State and appointment of Bankers for the Society.
Earlier, the Mission Director, Hafeeza Muzaffer J&K Women Empowerment Society highlighted the role of J&K Women Empowerment Society in bringing a sea change in the transformation of the society and making women economically and socially strong. She said the State Mission Authority for Women will achieve objectives of the NHEW through the State Resource Centre for women and the Government of India will provide funding for establishment and running of SRCW.
Meanwhile, the meeting was also told that the Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI released an amount of Rs.16.38 lacs in 2011-12 for setting up of the State Resource Centre for Women in the State, while the proposed budget estimates of SRCW for the current financial year is Rs. 33,45000 lacs. It was also told in the meeting that the total budgetary allocation for Pilot project “Poorna Shakti Kendars “ in the State is Rs. 40.11 lacs annually, which will be funded by NMEW.
While discussing the matter regarding holding of seminar/awareness programmes and workshop in the State, the Minister emphasized on conducting such camps in far flung areas so that the women living in remote areas would get proper information about the welfare programmes of Government meant for women. It was also told in the meeting that for such programmes required funds have already been released by the National Mission for Empowerment of Women. On the occasion, some members put forth some valuable suggestions for empowering the women in the State.

Dr. Nahid Soz, Managing Director, Women’s Dev. Corporation, Dr. G.N. Itoo, OSD with MSW, Mrs. Rubina Kousar, Secretary, J&K State Commission for Women, Shri G.M.
