Animal, Sheep rearing backbone of rural economy: Gurezi

SRINAGAR, May 13: Terming the animal and sheep rearing industry a backbone for changing socio-economic condition of the ruralities, the Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry Mr. Nazir Ahmad Gurezi stressed upon the officers to redouble their efforts to sensitizing the people to keep this industry alive.
This was stated by the Minister, while addressing a joint meeting of officers of Animal and Sheep Husbandry Departments convened to review the physical and financial achievement of twin departments here today.
The Minister directed the concerned to furnish the detailed inventory of departmental assets to their administrative departments for perusal. He also directed for making all available Ultra-Sonography machines operational and ensure their proper utilization.
Taking serious note of non- utilization of funds and achieving the set target during last fiscal, the Minister directed the administrative heads to fix target for the current year and ensure the utilization of funds earmarked under various centrally and state sponsored schemes in full, besides achieve the set targets in a time bound manner. He cautioned that the officers who do not utilize the funds and achieve the set target timely will be dealt severely. He asked for reviewing the progress periodically and submit its report to the concerned quarter.
Mr. Gurezi directed the authorities of the Sheep Department to prepare the project reports for infrastructure development for established Sheep Farms.
Giving details of the activities carried out by the twin departments, the meeting were informed that 14 health camps were organized, 234 ewe units were established under various State and centrally sponsored schemes generating 282 employments for local unemployed youth, 16 goat units were established under National Mission for Protein Supplements (NMPS) during 2012-13 in Kashmir Division.
As many as 5 lakh doses of Sheep pox-killed vaccine produced, 40.79 lakh anthelmintic drenches performed against the target of 40 lakh, 19.13 lakh vaccinations were conducted against the target of 20 lakh, 42.45 lakh medicinal baths were performed against the target 40 lakh during 2012-13,
the meeting was informed.
Director, Animal Husbandry, Kashmir also projected brief account of the activities of the department and informed about the financial and physical achievements registered by the department during 2012-13.
Among other the meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, Director Animal Husbandry, Kashmir, Director, Sheep Husbandry, Kashmir, Chief Husbandry officers and District Sheep Husbandry officers of Kashmir Division.
