| Azad visits quake hit areas in Doda | | | DODA: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad accompanied by Minister for PWD (R&B) and Mechanical Engineering Abdul Majid Wani on Monday visited earthquake hit areas of Doda District besides addressing a series of public meetings. MLA, Bhaderwah, Mohammad Sharief Niaz, MLA, Ramban, Ashok Kumar besides other district officers were present on the occasion. The Union Minister addressed a series of public meetings at Kilhotran, Bhatyas, Chiralla, Khankoot, Bartoon, Kanthi and Trown. Azad said that every effort is being taken up for ensuring necessary relief to the quake affected people in the region whose houses have suffered severe damages. He said tents have been provided by the Indian Red Cross Society, New Delhi for onward distribution among the severely affected people. He said that assessment of damages of residential as well as government property is going on in the entire region through various teams deputed for the purpose at block, tehsil and village level in the entire district. He directed the officers to ensure coverage of all the affected people in the survey report so that relief and assistance reaches to the deserving population. Dwelling on the seriousness of Centre and state government in timely distribution of relief to the quake hit areas in the region, the Union Minister said each and every affected family will be provided relief and help for their rehabilitated. Azad said that there is need to ensure formulation and implementation of Disaster Management Plans in a more effective and organized manner in the region to minimize the loss of life and property in such disasters. He also underlined the need of creating awareness among the people about precautions and measures to be taken in any such natural calamity. The team comprises of Prof. C.V Murty from IIT Chennai Madras, Prof. Pardeep Kumar from Department of Civil Engineering IIT Hyderabad, A.K Jain Under Secretary NDMA New Delhi, Hari Kumar President Geo-Hazard Society, Ajay Chaurasia President Scientist CSIR, Central Building Research Institute Roorki and Anoop Kumar Director Keranth RVK Specialist New Delhi. |
