Mir inaugurates dockyard at Abikarpora

SRINAGAR: Minister for Tourism, Mr. Ghulam Ahmed Mir today inaugurated Dockyard at Abikarpora, Dal Gate.
The Dockyards at constructed at Abikarpora and Pokhribal was constructed at a cumulative cost of Rs. 3.32 crore by Tourism Department to facilitate the house boat owners for construction and repairs of their house boats.
Speaking on the occasion, the Tourism Minister said that house boat owners have a great role to promote tourism in the State. He called upon them to provide all modern lodging and boarding facilities to the tourists while staying in house boats. He said it should be also ensured that no tourist would face any inconvenience as J&K is well known in the world in its hospitality.
The Minister said that government would provide all logical support for revival of historical house boats. He said government has also launched an incentive scheme under which, those who intends to setup their units under tourism sector would be provided incentives up to Rs. 1 crore.
Mir said that J&K is world famous in its varied tourism potential and government is endeavouring to promote and show case it globally for boosting the economy of the State. He said strenuous efforts are being made to upgrade the tourist related infrastructure, besides to develop new spots in the State, for which crores of rupees are being expended with Centre financial assistance.
The Minister asked tourism stakeholders to pay special heed on upgradation of tourism infrastructure as due to resilience of the people the State would witness a big boom of tourism activities in near future. He said tourism is back bone of our economy and it is responsibility of all of us to contribute this sector for making the J&K a prosperous one in the country. On the occasion, the Minister released a book titled “House boat the ailing heritage” written by Mr. Manzoor Ahmed Wanganoo.
