| World Red Cross Day observed at Budgam | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR: World Red Cross Day was observed here today which was jointly organised by Departments of Education, Social Welfare and district administration. Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, who presided over the function emphasised for creating awareness among the students about the role of Red Cross in providing the assistance and relief during natural calamities besides providing medicare to the needy people. He enjoined upon the participants to increase the enrolment of volunteers to contribute for the basic aim of this movement to provide help for the needy. Urging the participants and the organisers to spread the message among people from all walks of life, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised for conducting such programmes in every nook and corner of the district to ensure round the clock availability of volunteers in the district. A symposium was also organised on the occasion in which students of educational institutions highlighted the role of Red Cross Society and selfless efforts of volunteers during natural calamities. Earlier, as many as 11 wheel chairs were distributed among differently abled persons besides 6 cheques worth Rs. 25,800 were provided as scholarship among students belonging to other backward classes on the occasion. Among others, Chief Education Officer, Budgam, District Social Welfare Officer, Budgam and Principal of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam were present on the occasion. |
