| IUST provides scholarship to 921 needy students | | | AWANTIPORA: Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Prof. A. R. Trag distributed scholarships sponsored by the Indian Oil Corporation among the deserving meritorious students pursuing Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme in the Campus. On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor reiterated that IUST is fully committed to provide opportunities to the meritorious and deserving students from economically weaker sections of the society to pursue professional and technical education through various programmes offered by the university. As many as 921 students were provided scholarships during the last three financial years. He said, besides introducing Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme, IUST is playing a proactive and pioneering role in providing timely guidance and facility to the meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections for scholarships and financial assistance under various schemes such as Merit-cum-Means Scheme, Post Matric Scheme, Central Scholarship Scheme and other schemes for Pahari Speaking, Tribal Community, other Backward Classes and Physically Challenged. These schemes are being administered by the Government of India through Ministry of Minority Affairs and Government of Jammu & Kashmir through the Department of Social Welfare and Directorate of Tribal Affairs, State Advisory Board for the development of Pahari Speaking People Government of Jammu & Kashmir State and Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education. He added that the procedure is being meticulously followed and scholarships with Rs. 3 crore are expected in the year 2013. |
