early times report SRINAGAR, May 24: Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mr. Mubarak Gul has directed the concerned authorities to take immediate remedial measures to reduce health hazard caused due to poplar trees in the Valley. He stressed a long strategy to weed out the poplar trees, which cause various kinds of ailments to the people in the Valley. He welcomed the ban imposed by the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar for fresh plantation of popular trees in Srinagar district and also sought similar measures for entire Valley. The Speaker was interacting with a number of deputations from the Valley, who specially sought measures to deal with the menace of popular trees which are major source of certain kinds of allergies and other health problems to the people. The people projected various demands before the Speaker which included replacement of damaged transformers, augmentation of drinking water in Rakh Colony, shortage of ration in Safakadal, Pather Masjid, Gulshanabad, Noorbagh and other areas in Eidgah Constituency and repair and renovation of lanes and drains. The Speaker gave patient hearing to the deputationists and assured them to address their all genuine problems on priority. He directed the Irrigation authorities to immediately start de-silting from all distributaries in Eidgah area including Syedpora to Sangam via Khashilsar. Responding to the demand for improvement in drainage system in Eidgah Constituency, the Speaker said that an allocation of Rs.1.74 crore has already been sanctioned under NABARD for the purpose and the construction work on the project will start soon. |
