early times report SRINAGAR, May 24: N. N. Vohra, Governor, laid the foundation of the Science and Technology Block of the Kashmir University at its upcoming Zakura Campus here today. With a built up area of over 45000 square feet, this 3-storey Block will be constructed within a period of one year. Speaking after laying the foundation stone, the Governor called upon the faculty, students and all the stakeholders to work hard to make the university a centre of excellence. He observed that Kashmir University had a glorious past and if we work with dedication and commitment this varsity will have an even brighter future. The Governor, who is Chancellor of the Kashmir University, discussed the Master Plan of the Zakura Campus of the University with Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, the architect and the concerned officers present on this occasion, and stressed the need to ensure that all the buildings must provide for utilization of solar energy and, besides, the entire Campus must provide for rain water harvesting. He also laid stress on the most judicious use of the available land, keeping in view the future growth of the varsity, and said that fast growing species of trees should be planted along the entire boundary line for adding to the aesthetics of this Campus, which spreads over 300 kanals of land. Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, thanked the Governor for his strong support and keen interest in the growth of the University. Prof. Zafar Ahmad, Registrar, University of Kashmir, in his welcome address, gave details of the physical and financial aspects of the development of the Zakura Campus. Mr. Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Faculty members and senior functionaries of the University were among those present on this occasion.
