Mir for co-ordinated efforts to ensure adequate power, water supply in Jammu region

JAMMU, June 3 : Minister for Agriculture Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir on Monday called for co-ordinated efforts between various service providing departments for ensuring adequate power and water supply across the Jammu region, keeping in view the severity of summer. “Due to unprecedented climatic conditions and scorching heat at this point of the season, the service providing departments will have to put in extra efforts in maintaining supply line so that the difficulties of the people are solved”, Mr Mir said while reviewing the supply position of essentials and other services at a high level meeting in the summer secretariat. Mr Mir is currently headquartered in Jammu as part of the mechanism devised by the government to keep senior Ministers available at the summer secretariat on rotational basis to mitigate the problems of the people. The Minister exhorted the Chief Engineers of Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering to re-energize their help-lines for taking cognizance of the people’s problems on immediate basis. He acknowledged the pressure on power supply keeping in view the growing demand of consumers and asked the engineers to ensure best possible availability and adhering to the schedule. He also hoped that the consumers will make judicious use of power especially during peak hours.
On irrigation facilities, the Minister asked the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control to gear up field agencies for meeting the requirements of the farming community.
The Minister also reviewed availability of various essentials, regulation of transport and maintaining of health and hygiene. He called for intensifying vigil in the markets to foil the attempts of unscrupulous elements and profiteers.
Earlier, the Minister also heard the problems of people individually and collectively pertaineing to various departments and gave necessary instructions for mitigating these. Those present in the meeting included Chief Engineer PDD, PHE and Irrigation and other senior officers of these Department .
