Chairman Ramachandra Khuntia asks for submission of requirements within 7 days

SRINAGAR, June 12: A high level delegation of Parliamentary Standing Committee, comprising of members of Rajya Sabha and Senior officials of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) interacted with staff and faculty of Central University of Kashmir and other State Universities at Gandhi Bhawan, Kashmir University today.
The delegation has arrived on a three day visit to Kashmir Valley. On the first day, the delegation examined the status of faculty position, status of infrastructure and funding pattern of Central University of Kashmir, State Universities of J&K, NIT Srinagar and Polytechnics besides held threadbare discussion with representatives of State Government and UGC. The members of delegation include Ramachandra Khuntia, (Chairman) Mahadeo Singh Khandela, Tarun Vijay, Avinash Rai Khanna, Daishnab Parida, Dr. Charkes Dias and P. K. Biju.
Vice Chancellor, Central University Kashmir Prof. Abdul Wahid apprised the Committee about the steps taken by Central University to focus on the holistic personality development of students and prioritize all the academic programmes having core, elective, skill based and social orientation courses selected for new generation. He said that these programmes are aimed to assess values, skills and knowledge imbibed by students through continuous internal assessment process.
Prof. Wahid said that Central University Campus will be developed on the modern design with features of green campus and energy efficient buildings, keeping in view provision for future expansion and space economy the integral components of the master plan.
Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Talat Ahmad in his presentation said that Kashmir University is the first University of the State set up in 1948 for promotion of higher education and moral standards among student community. He said that among other hi-tech facilities, Kashmir University provides global level library facilities to the students, functioning round the clock.
Other Vice Chancellors of the State also made impressive presentations about the functioning of their Universities on the occasion.
Principal Secretary, Higher Education, K. B. Aggarwal while giving details of Higher Education scenario of the state said that the students are given all possible educational facilities not only through main campus but also through north and south campus so that the students living in far-flung areas are benefitted by the seats of higher learning.
The delegation is expected to interact with state officials regarding implementation of RTE, SSA, MDM on 13th besides matter related to status and scope of further expansion of higher and school education will be discussed on 14th instant.
