JAMMU, June14 : To review the measures undertaken by the administration in the wake of flood situation, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand along with Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood control Mr. Sham Lal Sharma took an extensive tour of Khour and adjoining areas. Taking swift action on rising water levels in the river Chenab, Mr. Tara Chand and Sham Lal Sharma today along with a high official team of district administration rushed to the site and had a firsthand inspection of the prevailing situation. Additional District Development Commissioner, Chief Engineer, I&FC, SDM, Akhnoor, engineers and officers from revenue, block development and other concerned departments accompanied during the tour. The team visited Datyal, Indri Pattan, Hamirpur, Sidhar, Bakore and other low lying areas. At these places detailed review of damage to crops and property was done and measures to check further damage were discussed in detail with the civil administration and concerned engineers. Interacting with the people at different locations, Mr. Tara Chand inquired about the prevailing situation and assured them of all required help by the administration. He directed the SDM to depute revenue officials to assess the loss. He said the matter for special package for those affected with flood would be discussed with the Chief Minister and adequate compensation would be given to those who have suffered losses due to floods Instructions were issued to the flood control engineers for establishing a round the clock control room and ensure that all works are done on high priority, so as to restrict the damage to the minimum and make sure that people do not suffer due to non availability of required men and machinery. Mr. Sham Lal directed the Addl. DDC to ensure that proper arrangements are made for regular power supply to the affected areas and where ever required alternate arrangements are also put in place for carrying out the rescue and relief operations.
He instructed Police and Civil administration to be fully prepared for emergency and should be ready with all the necessary supplies and equipment like tents, medicines etc, so as to shift people from low lying areas to safer places within a short notice, adding that temporary rehabilitation facilities should also be made ready.
