| Migrants continue to protest | | Power crisis snowballing into major controversy | | Jammu, June 27 : With state Government continuing its rigid stand, the power crisis in Jagti camp is snowballing major controversies. The highhandedness of power ministry headed by Chief Minister to deduct the power tariff from hapless migrants dependent on cash doles from government after their mass exodus from valley in 1989-90 has been a cause of concern for displaced people from valley who said instead of taking steps for a rehabilitation with honour and dignity and applying balm on our wounds the government was adding to our miseries further. The power crisis in camp has taken such an alarming situation that late last night when there was total blackout in the camp and a group of displaced students went to receiving station asking the employees on duty to restore power as their studies have been affected the employees stacked them and some students in the melee were injured. This resulted in a lot of resentment in the camp and the inmates of the camp came to streets and protested again. They warned to intensify agitation and again block the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. However the Chief Engineer M&RE Shahnaz Goni, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner R.K Pandita and other senior civil and police officers visited Jagti latter in the afternoon to diffuse the crisis. The CE M&RE assured the protesting camp inmates that she will convene meeting with Relief department to sort out the problem. The protestors while warning to come to street and block National Highway again demanded 16 hour power supply be maintained in the camp instead of 5 hours. The protestors while terming charging of power tariff on displaced people as illogical said that the government was bound to bear these expenses at its own as the migrants were forced to flee from the valley by militants due to its ineptness. Instead of rehabilitating the Pandits back in the valley with honour and dignity and as per the terms and conditions of migrants the government was adding to their miseries and trying to escape from its prime duty. Terming 19 hour power cut a great human rights violation they said even monarch Hitler of Germany has not dealt his opponents in the way the state government is dealing with Pandit minorities from valley who are the worst victims of terrorism |
