| NMC demands exemption of income tax on DA | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 7: President of the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) Subash Shastri today demanded exemption of Dearness Allowance from the ambit of income tax as this is linked with price index. Addressing an impressive rally of NMC workers here, Shastri said that the price escalation is directly linked with the Dearness Allowance of the salaried class and pensioners but it was strange that the income tax is also imposed on the increase of the salaries because of DA. NMC chief also asked Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram to reconsider the practice. Shastri, meanwhile, added that provision with regard to 20 per cent interim relief to the Central and State Government employees and pensioners, merger of 50 per cent of DA into basic pay/pension and enhancement of monthly wages of daily wagers to Rs 10,000 should be made in the ensuing monsoon session of parliament during the current Budget session. Pleading the cause of daily wagers working in the various govt. departments, Shastri has also appealed to the Chief Minister, Finance Minister and Chief Secretary to amend SRO 64 and formulate comprehensive policy for regularization of all daily wagers/Casual and seasonal workers engaged in PWD, Irrigation, Floriculture, PDD and other departments of the State Govt. after March 1994. Shastri said that such an amendment in the SRO should be effected before 31 July 2013 so that the new regularization policy become operational from coming Independence Day as a gift to working class. |
