| Bhalla reviews achievements of horticulture deptt, SKUAST-J | | | JAMMU, July 7: Minister for Horticulture, Housing and Culture, Mr Raman Bhalla today chaired a meeting of officers of the Horticulture Department and SKUAST-J here today and reviewed their achievements in promoting horticultural activities in Jammu region . Director Horticulture, Mr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-J, Dr. Ajay Koul, Prof & Head Division of Fruit Sciences SKUAST-J Dr. V.K.Wali, Professor of SKUAST-K, Dr. Fayaz Ahmed besides Chief Horticulture Officers, Senior Officers, Progressive Orchardists and Nursery Growers participated in the Meeting. The meeting was convened to review the Horticulture Production and Potential available for different Fruit Crops in Jammu Division. The Minister directed to set up a Joint team of Horticulture Department and SKUAST J officers to formulate prospective plans and detailed project reports for introduction of high yielding fruit crops in various zones of Jammu division. He emphasized to work out an action plan as per the agro-climatic conditions of different districts of the division. He stressed upon the senior functionaries of the Department and SKUAST-J to frame the strategies and components under horticulture schemes which are technologically woven and gives maximum return to the farming community. Mr. Bhalla called upon the Director Research, SKUAST Jammu to prepare a detailed plan for the Pecan nut Mission and Olive Production because of its unique and regional identity at the national level and as it is highly remunerative. The Director Horticulture informed the Minister that eight departmental nurseries have been inspected by a team of the National Horticulture Board, Govt. of India for the accreditation in the first phase and in the second phase the departmental and private nurseries would be taken up for accreditation process by NHB. Later, a deputation of private nursery growers also met the Minister and apprised him about the issues regarding revision in sale rate of fruit plants in the state and other related issues. Mr. Bhalla assured the delegation that a committee shall be constituted to redress their problems. He directed the private nursery growers to distribute only those fruit plants which are true to type as per quality parameters. He desired to submit the action plan/DPRs at the earliest so that funding is arranged accordingly. He directed the departmental functionaries to produce the high yielding and area specific fruit plants using modern technology so that productivity of the fruits is increased. |
