| Govt websites mock at official claims | | | Early Times Report Jammu Aug 7: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been highlighting his achievements in various sectors through press releases . The Chief Minister claims that J&K has made a great development in the sector of Information Technology and E Governance but when one practically goes through the official district websites of J&K Govt it portrays as if we are living in a stone age. Earlier Early times highlighted the issue of J&K Government’s official website (www.jammuandkashmir.nic.in) which has been defunct since years but when it comes to the websites of the J&K’s different districts they too sail in the same boat. The question is that will the new Information Technology Minister Feroz Khan be able to revamp his department and get these website updated on daily basis or not ? Official websites of almost all districts in J&K carry outdated information while a few of them are completely defunct.
Srinagar district (www.srinagar.nic.in) This website has a very shabby outlook after one logs on to it. The population of the district has been shown 10.94 Lakhs as per 2001 census. It seems that the District Informatics officer who gets a very hefty salary has found no time to update the latest census details on this important website which was conducted in 2011.
District Jammu (www.jammu.nic.in). This website has a link regarding district tenders and after opening the link one finds tender notice dating back to 28th July 2012 and 3rd August 2012 respectively. These tenders are regarding purchase of nutrition items by the ICDS department. It seems that after August 2012 not a single tender has been invited in the Jammu district . In the important notices and circulars the notices and circulars of September 2012 have been posted on the website and one gets a feeling that after these notices and circulars were put on the website not a single notice or circular has been issued in the district. .
The newly created districts of Kishtwar , Kulgam , Shopian and Ganderbal have no official district websites inspite of the fact that these districts were created nearly five years back.
The website of district Kupwara —www.kupwara.nic.in—hasn’t been updated for long. The landline telephone numbers available on the websites are not working , even the official number of DC office Kupwara is out of order and not a single mobile number of any district official is available on the website. The old defunct advertisement notice are still present on the website.
Rajouri District website - www.rajouri.nic.in : This district website has a column on PIO’s and APIO’s under J&K RTI Act 2009 but when one opens the link a message is being flashed under updation and one cannot access the list of these Public Information Officers (PIO’s) and Assistant Public Information Officer (APIO’s) who have been appointed to provide Information to people under State RTI Act 2009. The link related to list of Sarpanches and Panches cannot be opened . In an interesting case the information related to Hajj 2010 is still available there on the Rajouri district website and till date it has not been updated with Hajj 2012
Pulwama District website : www.pulwama. nic.in . Many wrong information’s related to district officials is there on the website . For example in the telephone directory column the officers who have been transferred from the district , their name continues to exist there . Mr Nasir Ahmad Lone was Assistant Commissioner Revenue Pulwama one year back but his name still exists there. The tourist places of Kulgam and Shopian districts have been shown located in Pulwama district.
Contrary to this all the district websites across most of the states in India are regularly updated. If any one accesses any of the district website in Maharashtra or Karnataka one feels the difference. Will the new Minister of State for Information Technology with Independent charge Mr Feroz Khan overhaul his department and remove this mess from Information Technology department ? Will he be able to meet this challenge is a big question being posed by citizens of this state ?
