| Seeking credit card?: Journalists, Lawyers, Policemen in Banks' negative list | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 22: If you are a Journalist, Police man or a Lawyer and want to have a Credit Card, you may have to face an embarrassing denial as Banks have put individuals in these three professions into their negative list, eventhough banks have no rhyme or reason behind this discrimination. Advocate Sumit Sharma while talking to Early Times said, "I got a call from a private bank offering me a credit card, when I applied for the same, at the time of filling the form the executive asked me about my profession; when I said I was an Advocate, he refused to fill my form saying that bank did not issue credit card to Advocates, Journalists and police." "It was so embarrassing to hear those words from the banker, How can they degrade some profession, we are also citizens of the country, with equal rights, why this disparity, when it's a matter of Credit card?" he asked. Not only the Credit cards but the Banks also hesitate to give loans to the same three professionals. Ravinder Sharma, a Journalist by profession said, "I had applied for home loan a year back in a Government Bank, the bankers were ready to give the loan, but when they came to know that I was a Journalist, firstly they refused to give loan, but after my argument they got ready but asked for irrelevant formalities so that I backed out myself." The Private bankers to meet their targets and oblige the customers issue credit cards in the names of spouses or other family members. Many of the bankers ask the customer to fill up another profession on the application form to get the Credit Card.A private Bank Official in Jammu requesting anonymity said that most of the banks had classified people of certain professions negatively from owning credit cards after "bad experiences" in the past, but the professionals like Journalists, Lawyers and Police have been put under the category of High Risk Profile (HRP), because it is difficult to recover the money from these professionals in case accounts go bad." "There is no such Policy in the bank to deny Credit card to a particular profession," he added. |
