Will Kashmiri Hindu Government employees migrate from Valley?
Attack on Pulwama Transit Camp

JAMMU, Aug 22: Will the Kashmiri Hindu Government employees posted in Kashmir under the Prime Minister's Special Employment Package pack up and migrate to Jammu? If the August 19 deliberate attack on the Pulwama Transit Camp, Haal, and the manner in which the Kashmiri Hindu employees protested a day later is any indication then it can be said that their days in Kashmir are just numbered and that they would either give up their jobs and return to Jammu or seek transfer from Kashmir to Jammu.
About five dozen Kashmiri Hindu employees, engaged under the Prime Minister's Special Employment Package some two years ago, reside at Haal, Pulwama Transit Camp". On Monday night, their houses "came under stone pelting. On Tuesday, the angry Hindu employees came on to the streets and protested against the anti-social and anti-national elements responsible for the attack on their transit camp alleging that the attack was aimed at creating a situation that would force them to quit Kashmir so that members belonging to the other community grab their jobs, as it happened in the Valley after the minority community vacated the Valley under threat from terrorists and extremist elements in the majority community.
It was not only that the employees putting up at Haal, Pulwama Transit Camp, came on to the streets to lodge a strong protest. They were also joined by some other migrant employees from other camps like Vessu in Anantnag district and Sheikhpora migrant Camp in Budgam district and filled the air with anti-Government and anti-local administration slogans. They demanded a foolproof security cover for the migrant employees and their families and adequate security arrangements in and around the migrant camps housing employees belonging to the minority community so that anti-social elements could not do any harm to them in the future.
The fears of the handful employees belonging to the minority community are well-founded. One more Haal-type attack on them would surely leave them with no other option but to say goodbye to Kashmir and come back to Jammu. The State Government needs to take all the necessary steps calculated to restore their confidence in the administration.
