| Troops told to foil Pak mischief on J&K border | | | Jammu, Sept 23 : If the latest inputs from intelligence agencies are any guide, militants operating within Jammu and Kashmir may trigger bigger incidents of violence in the state simply to create problem for India and Pakistan wishing to resume the process of bilateral dialogue.
Besides this Pak army and other agencies may continue to provide assistance to groups of militants in sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir. This assistance may be in the shape of providing fire cover to the infiltrators. Records have revealed that the latest ceasefire violation in Rajouri was 26th during the last two months indicating that agencies across the LOC were preparing for a bigger mischief. According to these inputs, the Pak Army and the ISI may engineer major mischief in Jammu and Kashmir and on the LOC and the IB so as to force New Delhi to delay resumption of the Indo-Pak dialogue. The Pak agencies are, as per the reports, are not in favour of a meeting between Manmohan Singh and Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UN Assembly. As per these inputs Pakistan itself is faced with security crisis following repeated incidents of gun and grenade attacks on civilians, security forces, religious places, including mosques and churches. The latest terrorist strike on the historic church in Peshawar, that left 78 people dead, have added new dimensions to the fragile situation in Pakistan. Reports indicate that the rise in the activities of terrorists in Pakistan could cast their shadow on the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. It is in this context the Government has asked the troops, deployed on the LOC and the IB, to be on high alert for foiling any mischief from across the border. Security forces deployed within Jammu and Kashmir have been directed to intensify their surveillance on all antinational elements. They have been told to remain alert and foil the pln of militants to sneak into the ranks of protesters for vitiating the political and security atmosphere by targeting innocent civilians. (KIP) |
