Srinagar, Sept.27 : Police on Friday confirmed that the attack on Police station and Army unit in Samba and Kathua areas of Jammu division was a 'suicide' attack carried out by militants most likely from Pakistan, who had infiltrated from across the border. The police however ruled out any 'security' lapse that enabled the militants to carry out the Fedayeen attack 'successfully'. Meanwhile a red alert has been sounded across Jammu and Kashmir following the attack and search operations have been intensified in Jammu region. "This was a Fidayeen attack and all the three militants who carried out the attack had infiltrated form across the border," 'Inspector General of Police Jammu Division, Rajeesh Kumar told KNS on Friday.
He however said that there were no leads as of now but added that Police had began the investigation to find out whether there was any security lapse that enabled militants to carry out the attack as per their plans. "This is a Fidayeen attack, and these attacks take place the way it happened. But we have got the leads which suggest that they had come from Pakistan all along to carry out the attack,"' added the IGP. He also said that though the police had not made any arrests as of now but were minutely investigating the whole incident. Kumar further said that a red alert has been sounded in the entire Jammu region but refused to accept that the militancy was gaining ground in the Jammu province.
''This is a fidayeen attack, that does not mean that Jammu was becoming a new destination for militants,'' the IGP said. He said that all the three militants looked to be Pakistani nationals, however added that their exact identity was yet to be established. ''As per preliminary investigation, it looks that they are from Pakistan, they don't look to be locals, but their exact identity is yet to be established.'' Kumar said.
