Protests over twin terror strikes rock Jammu region

JAMMU, Sept 27: Several political, social and religious organizations today held demonstrations and rallies in protest against the twin attacks by militants in which twelve people, including an army officer, were killed.
Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) held a demonstration against yesterday's attack and raised slogans against Pakistan.
Led by its president and MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, the activists assembled at Press Club and burnt effigy of Pakistan.
"Central government should give befitting reply to Pakistan. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should call off his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York on Sunday," Mankotia told reporters.
JKNPP activists later tried to take out a rally from Press Club, but police arrested them and took them to District Police Lines. They were released later.
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) also staged a massive protest demonstration which was led by BJP State President Jugal Kishore Sharma and accompanied by Leader of Legislative Party Ashok Khajuria, National Executive Member & Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh, State Vice-Presidents Col. Uttam Singh and Sakina Bano, General Secretaries Kavinder Gupta and Bali Bhagat, MLA Sukhnandan Kumar, Morcha Presidents Priya Sethi and Surinder Bhagat, District President Subash Jandial and other senior leaders. The party activists also burnt effigies of Pakistan and UPA governments.
BJP chief Jugal Kishore Sharma, while expressing gratitude to the people of Jammu, including transporters, Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce & Industry, traders, educational and social organizations for extending their full support to make Jammu bandh successful, said that the unity displayed by Jammuites on the issue of security and safety has sent very clear message to the UPA as well as NC-Congress coalition that the people want a tough and clear stand against Pakistan can only bring down the anger of masses. He said that it is indeed unfortunate that the Prime Minister has failed to understand his constitutional duty to ensure security of the citizens of India and it seems that he is under some external pressure for continuation of peace talks with Pakistan.
Another protest was led by BJP leader Yudhvir Sethi, in which the protestors burnt effigy of Pakistan. "We demand stern action against Pakistan for this barbaric act," Sethi said.
Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists, led by its state president Ravinder Raina, held a protest in the city, demanding stern action against Pakistan.
BJP activists staged strong protest demonstrations in Reasi, Udhampur, R.S. Pura, Akhnoor, Rajouri, Samba, Hiranagar, Kathua where a complete bandh was observed.
BJP unit of Poonch has condemned the attack at Samba and Hiranagar in which 12 people have lost their lives. To pay homage to the sacrifice made by security forces personell who lost their life, BJP activists paid tributes to them by lighting candles.
A massive protest was lodged by Bajrang Dal, Poonch against the terrorist attack. The protestors raised slogans against Pakistan and demanded that government of India should take tough action against Pakistan as repeated terrorist attack is an insult to Indian democracy.
Meanwhile, the BJP activists led by State Executive Member Koushal Kotwal, had a scuffle with police at Seri Bazaar of Bhaderwah when they were stopped from burning the effigies of Pakistan and UPA.
All Party Hindu Coordination Committee (APHCC) also held protest and appealed to the Centre and state government to beef up security in temples of the state.
State Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also took out a rally against the terror attacks in Samba and Hiranagar.
Under the leadership of former minister and NCP president Thakur Randhir Singh, the protestors raised slogans against Pakistan. They expressed support for raising border scouts from Kathua to Poonch up to Leh to provide employment to unemployed youths and ex-servicemen.
Several outfits also held demonstrations in Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Bhaderwah areas of the division in protest against the attack.
The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena under the leadership of their president Ashok Gupta took out a protest rally from Rani Park here today. The rally after passing through the main bazaars of old City concluded at City Chowk.
The protesters said that the Prime Minister should call off his proposed meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in New York on Sunday in the wake of Fidayeen attacks.
Ashok Gupta said that the twin terror attacks by the Pakistan militants in Hiranagar and Samba is a dastardly act which reflects that Pakistan continues on its strategy to strike at will through this proxy war.
In protest against militant attack at Police Station, Hiranagar and Army Camp at Samba, which caused loss of lives of innocent citizens, police and army personnel, the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA), Jammu today abstained its working in all the Courts including the High Court at Jammu and held a strong protest demonstration. While raising slogans against Pakistan sponsored militancy and pro-army, police and civilians who laid their lives for the safety and security of the nation, the procession comprising of around 200 lawyers started from Court premises and culminated at main road, Janipur. President of the Association, Sr. Advocate M K Bhardwaj while lauding the role of police, army and para- military forces in countering the militancy advocated for strengthening them with most sophisticated weapons with latest technology. He also appealed to the State and Central Govt. to strengthen the VDCs, wherever they are existing and creation of more such VDC's in the border Villages of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and other parts of the State for effective and timely counter of the militants by the civilians also in addition to the armed forces.
Hindustan Shiv Sena (HSS) activists while expressing their resentment against twin terror attack in Hiranagar and Samba burnt Pakistan flags in the city and shouted slogans against Pakistan. Addressing the gathering, HSS National President Dimpy Kohli and Rajan Gupta said that regional political parties are responsible for whatever is happening in the state. HSS took a rally in all parts of Jammu Indira Chowk, Hari Market, Gummat Bazar, Raghunath Bazaar, City Chowk, Residency Road, Vivekanand Chowk, Below Gummat, Jewel Chowk, Canal Road, Talab Tillo and Gandhi Nagar.
Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars United Front (JKGUF) has strongly condemned the twin militant attacks on the police station Hiranagar and Army Camp Samba claiming the lives of innocent people including a senior army officer, three army jawans and four police cops on Thursday. The president of the front Advocate Shah Mohd Chowdharywhile condemning the "dastardly" twin militant attacks said that the attacks were an attempt to stall the dialogue going to be held between the Prime Minister of India and Pakistan in the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
Youth Congress, Samba paid tributes to the army personnel, police men and civilians who lost their lives terrorist strike in Samba and Hiranagar. Youth Congress Samba president Vinod Kumar while paying rich tributes to the brave heroes expressed sympathies to the bereaved families.
About two dozen NGOs in their joint statement while terming this heinous act of cowardice as crime against humanity condemned the attack in strongest words. The NGOs including Vichar Kranti Manch International (VKMI), Sawera NGO, Hasya Yog International, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumai branch Jammu, Attitude Change International (ACI), Surve Utthan Trust, Ekal Vidyalay Abhivan, Bhartiya Sunskriti Punar Jagran Avam Utthan Nias Kanpur - branch Jammu, Jammu Yatri Bhawan, Bharatiya Jain Milan, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Adbi Kunj, J&K Gao Raksha Smiti, Forum for Social Awareness, Sehkar Bharti, Sangarsh RTI Movement, Jammu, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Forum, J&K Transporters Joint Action Committee (Welfare) and J&K Confederation of Voluntary and Charitable Organizations' Trust, said the people behind such inhumane crimes are not only enemies of India but also other neighbouring countries, the spirit of all holy religions and humanity at large, and demanded they must be isolated and punished by joint efforts of countries affected.
Several organizations in Kathua condemned the militant attack on Police Station Hiranagar and Army installation at Samba. Sarv Dharam Seva Samiti (SDSS) criticized the militant attack at Police Station Hiranagar and Samba Army Camp. The president of Samiti Robin Sharma said the Pakistan is behind the attack with a motive just to create the disturbance in our country.
Kathua Vikas Manch (KVM) under the chairmanship of its President Prof. Ram Murti Sharma condemned the twice terror attack in Hiranagar and. He termed it as an act of barbarism and nefarious design of enemies of peace and as an attack on mankind and democracy. The members of the Manch observed two minutes silence for peace to the deceased souls and expressed their sympathies to the members of the bereaved families.
BJP and BJYM units of Kathua also expressed shock over the killings of six policemen and injuring of one army men in fidayeen attack which is being carried at Police Station Hiranagar and Army Camp Samba.
Youth Movement's and Nature-Mankind Friendly Global Movement while condemning the twin terror attacks urged the state government to provide a job next to the kin of those killed and Rs 35 lakh as compensation to their families.
Progressive Students Association (PSA) also strongly condemned the inhuman act of militants who attacked the Police Station Hiranagar and caused the killings of innocent seven policemen and at Samba army camp where an army man got injured. The PSA said that the state and Union Government both have been failed to provide the security to the common man and let them to the hands such brutal and barbaric bloody attacks.
Jammu Kashmir Loktantrik Party (JKLP) has also condemned the terror attack on Police Station Hiranagar and Samba Army Camp. The president of the JKLP Ranjit Singh expressed his concerns and accused the state as well as union government for their failure to answer Pakistan with iron hands.
Internationalist Democratic Party (IDP) strongly condemned the terrorist attack at police station, Hiranagar and Military camp at Samba in which policemen, security persons and civilians were killed brutally.
An emergency meeting was held in the office of Associated Chamber of Traders Federation (ACTF) under the chairmanship of its president Yash Paul Gupta. In the meeting all the members strongly condemned the terror incident and expressed sympathies with the family of those killed in the incident at Hiranagar and Samba. Yashpaul Gupta made an appeal to the government that all possible measures should be taken immediately so that such incidents may not occur again in the state.
State Secretary, CPI (M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Chairman PDF and MLA Hakim Mohammad Yasin, former MP and State President Samajwadi Party Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Chairman JKNDF Abdul Rashid Kabuli, Senior Vice President Awami National Conference Muzaffar Shah, president International Democratic Party ID Khajuria, State Secretary CPI Abdul Rehman Tukru and National Youth President Lok Janshakti Party Sanjay Saraf have issued in a joint statement issued here today strongly condemned the terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They expressed heartfelt sympathies to the families of all those who fell victim to the cowardly acts of violence in Jammu yesterday adding that it is imperative that these senseless acts of violence should not deter the two countries India and Pakistan from pursuing a path to a better future for their people. Terrorists had yesterday stormed a police station and then an army camp in Jammu region, killing 10 people including an army officer in twin 'fidayeen' attacks after they sneaked in from across the border.
