Jammu, Dec 3: Former Chief Minister and NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah apparently shares the view of BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi that women were being discriminated against if they got married to a non resident of J&K. In an interview with a Delhi based new channel Abdullah said he personally thinks that women who marry outside must get same rights as men. However, the Union Minister got so upset and angry on this question that he left the interview midway. It is a major shift for the party which had opposed granting equal rights to women in the court. The NC had even supported the bill which attempted to negate the direction of the High Court. Sunanda Pushkar, wife of union Minister Shashi Tharoor had recently said that it was gross injustice to the women of the state. Arun Jaitley, whose wife belongs to Jammu, recently posted, " Can Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ignore the dubious track record of his Party on this issue?". |
