| BOPEE scam: Govt to cancel guilty medicos' registration | | | Et Report
Jammu, Dec 3: Jammu and Kashmir government will cancel the registration of students who gained admission to the MBBS course through illegal means. Announcing this, Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din asked the Crime Branch to speed up the probe into the scam and come out with a list of students who got admission after purchasing leaked CET question papers. "As soon as the Crime Branch comes out with the list of students who secured admissions through CET examinations by paying bribe, their recognition would be cancelled then and there," Taj said.
The minister appealed to the striking students of Government Medical Colleges in Jammu and Srinagar to maintain calm and cooperate with the government and let the investigating agency come out with the truth.
The Crime Branch began a probe last month into the case after a complaint alleged that 12 candidates had qualified the CET 2012 exam by purchasing question papers from a syndicate that included officials close to the then BOPEE chairman. Former Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) chairman Mushtaq Ahmed Peer was arrested by the Crime Branch in Srinagar last month after raids found incriminating evidence from his residences in Srinagar and Jammu. Crime Branch have also arrested one Sajad Ahmad Sofi who had acted as an agent in the racket. During the probe, Crime Branch officials found that a special examination centre was set up in a hotel near Dal Lake for those candidates who had paid as much as Rs 20 lakh for ensuring admission. |
