| Chief Commissioner of Income Tax appreciates role of Valley taxpayers | | | Srinagar, Dec 3 : Appreciating the role of taxpayers of J&K especially from Kashmir valley in their contribution towards payment of direct taxes, the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar Circle covering J&K Gurpreet Singh today urged the citizens of the State to come forward and pay their income taxes in time and also make use of information technology to ease the process. He hailed the contribution ratio which is about 50% of the total tax collections from Commissionerate of J&K to the kitty of Amritsar tax collection region. Addressing the media persons here, Singh said that the Income Tax Department has started an e-Filing portal which the tax payers should use to their advantage. The portal and other computerized facilities will make help to make the process of filing taxes a less cumbersome and more user friendly process, he added. He said that the department has already formulated assessment information system under broader AST and appealed valley taxpayers to get redressal of their grievances through this facility. Laying emphasis on voluntary, non-obstructive and smooth tax administration, Singh said that the taxpayers should pay their taxes willingly adding that the Tax Officers need to be more polite & cordial towards the taxpayers. He informed that IT Office at Srinagar will have its own accommodation in near future. The Chief Commissioner said that the department proposes to hold awareness programmes in the valley in the near future to make the people aware about the latest facilities available to the tax payers so that they can benefit from them. He said that it is a matter of concern that the tax assessees are not aware of their rights and this issue needs to be dealt responsibly. Singh also had a meeting with the tax payers and members of Income Tax Bar Association which he described as fruitful. He said that the Association has agreed to cooperate with the department in spreading the message of timely payment of taxes. AK Thatai, Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, Jammu and Rakesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, range-3 Srinagar, were also present on the occasion. The Chief Commissioner is currently on a three day tour to Kashmir to take stock of functioning of Income Tax Department and held wide ranging discussions with the officers & the staff of Range-3 Srinagar |
