Javaid Naikoo
SRINAGAR, Dec 4: People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti today addressed a public gathering at the remotest and last Panchayat Halqa of Kashmir Kamal-kot of North Kashmir's Uri Constituency and criticized coalition Government led by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for allegedly neglecting the burning issues of people living in far flung and border areas.
While addressing the gathering Mehbooba Mufti said that despite four power projects in Uri people living in adjacent areas are still deprived of basic facility of electricity and instead of addressing the genuine demands of people, power tariff has been increased by 300% in the past five years.
Mehbooba who was accompanied by other senior members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP including chief party spokesperson Nayeem Akhter, Basharat Bukhari and local PDP workers of Uri constituency Syed Najeeb Shah while criticizing the policies of State Government, said that Omar led Government has failed to meet the challenge of unemployment and has only strengthened roots of corruption in the state.
She said that Chief Minister is blaming everybody except himself and his Government and added corruption has reached beyond tolerance under the present Government.
Omar Abdullah who in North Kashmir's Sopore area yesterday accused people of following "Dream Merchant" Syed Ali Shah Geelani actually forgets that it was National Conference which ran the campaign for plebiscite under the 'Mahaz-e-Raishumari' (referendum) for around 22 years and then sold it out for power in1975, she said.
PDP chief spokesperson Nayeem Akhter while addressing the people said that it was during the reign of PDP-Congress coalition that some broader and heartfelt decisions like giving practical shape to Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) which include opening of border roads across the state between India and Pakistan and exchange of delegations which include traders, political leaders, diplomats also took place between the two sides for first time since independence.
Basharat Bukhari and Syed Najeeb Shah also addressed the gathering and criticized the policies of State Government. "PDP-Congress Coalition led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was an era of peace and prosperity and under such an environment it became possible for coalition Government of that time to take some historic decisions like opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarbad and Poonch-Rawlakoot roads for travel ad trade," he said.
Pertinently according to the details received from Kamal-Kot was considered either a Congress or National Conference dominated with more than 90% people favouring NC or Congress candidates.
