Anganwadi Workers, Helpers protest in support of their demands
Inadequate financial resources spoiling ICDS cause: AWHU

Srinagar, Dec 4: Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (AWHU), today held a protest demonstration at press enclave Srinagar in support of their demands.
The protesting workers and helpers were demanding gratuity, the formulation of a pension scheme, immediate enhancement of their remuneration, payment of minimum wages and withdrawal of attempts to privatize ICDS.
The protestors were carrying banners, placards and shouting slogans demanding regularization of their services as Class III and Class IV employees with immediate increase in their honorarium to Rs. 5000 and Rs 4000 per month respectively. They were also demanding release of training grants in favour of the workers and helpers without any delay and providing of T.A, D.A for attending different meetings like pulse polio, Aids Awareness Programmes etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Jameela Sabiri General Secretary and Naseema Kuchay President AWHU said the grass root workers of the ICDS scheme should be entitled to decent living. They said that a standing mechanism must be put in place in Ministry of women and Child Development for revision in the rates of Honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers. "Anganwadi workers and helpers should be covered by the EPF and ESI Act for regularization of their services as Govt, employee, besides Anaganwadi Centres must be made as noodle centers to impart pre-school education," they stressed.
Meanwhile General Secretary Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) Om Prakash Sharma has expressed serious concern over the plight of Anganwadi workers and helpers of and urged the Government to concede to their genuine demands. He also said that allocation of inadequate financial resources has spoiled the cause of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
While demanding immediate release of their arrears under Central and State share, the CITU General Secretary urged the government to ensure time bound promotions of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers in various cadres of the Social Welfare Department.
