| Spreading darkness only policy NC pursues with effect: Karra | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 14: Accusing the NC of pushing the Valley into the dark ages, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) questioned the government for failing to start the gas turbine to meet the growing demands of electricity. Addressing public meeting Lamro in Khanshaib constituency, the party's candidate for Srinagar parliamentary constituency and former finance minister, Tariq Hameed Karra said the NC-led government owes answers for making people suffer in these chilly conditions, by not starting the gas turbine. He said the whole Kashmir has been turned into complete darkness and the rulers are busy making false claims about the increase in power generation. Karra said the power crisis represented a colossal failure of the government that had affected all sections of society. The PDP believe power is a fundamental right of the people especially in these wintry conditions, as life these days is completely dependent on electricity, he said adding PDP during its brief tenure in the power streamlined the power sector and ensured a decent supply of electricity to people. He said, even in Srinagar, the metered areas have to face a huge power curtailment on the daily basis and in the far-off areas power goes off for days together. In non-metered areas, people have to face 18 hours power cut daily. He said the prevailing darkness is a result of the NC's lust for power, which sold the vital resources of the state for its vested interests. |
