NC starts cosying up with Modi
12/14/2013 11:08:52 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 14: National Conference which has accused BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi of pursuing divisive politics and had criticized him for his simple suggestion of debate on Art 370 has started getting closer to him.
According to sources, party president is trying hard to open channels of communications with Modi through a senior BJP leader with whom he enjoys a personal equation and who is also very close to Modi.
The attempts of bridging the gaps with Modi had started as party goes by its dictum that it has to be on the right side of the party which is power in the Centre. According to sources, after the drubbing of Congress in all four States and with BJP coming to power in three States party has now realized that it needs to be on right side of the Modi.
"Modi wave definitely worked in BJP's favour in State elections. And there is every possibility of it happening in the Parliamentary elections also. So it's better and makes sense to have channels of communications with him as State elections are to be held latter. The Central Government has an important role in the State," said a senior NC leader, wishing not to be named.
The party had hinted about cosying up with the Modi after Omar Abdullah in one of tweets had said that less attendance in public rallies is a matter of concern. Though, he didn't elaborate about it but observers say he was pointing finger at Rahul Gandhi whose rallies didn't get as much attendance as that of Modi.
The turnaround in the NC had come when it itself blamed the PDP of using the services of four people, including journalists and retired IB chief, of getting close to Modi.
However, there is thinking in the party that Omar Abdullah can't have an equation with Modi or would like to be his company as he has personal equation with the Rahul Gandhi and has openly said that his future rests with the UPA. The party is looking for a solution to it also.
"In case NC gets close to its last tally of Assembly elections and Modi is the prime minister then party can make the room for Dr Farooq Abdullah to come back as chief minister which will be win-win situation for the party in either way," said the NC leader.
