SRINAGAR, Dec 14: The R&B Minister has a weak memory. Despite timely reminders from Early Times, he forgot to constitute a team to probe a scam involving face lifting of Srinagar before the annual darbar move last year.
The Minister had an excuse ready for the Early Times correspondent who called him to remind him of his promise. "I completely forgot the issue as I was busy in my constituency," he said.
The first assurance came on November 15 when he said that an inquiry committee will submit its report within three days which will be followed by punishment to the officials and contractors involved in the said face lifting scam.
On November 18, he said that he needed one more week to complete the inquiry as he was outside the state since November 15 therefore could not complete the inquiry process and added that Early Times must remind him before November 18 so that a committee is formed to probe the scam.
Pertinently when Early Times contacted the said Minister again on November 27 to know about the process of Inquiry, he said "I actually forget to form the committee."
All contacts with the Minister were lost from December 5. However, today when Early Times again managed to contact the said Minister, he said: "Srinagar face lifting scam has skipped from his memory as he was busy in political campaigning in his native place and is used to forget things more often" and added that Early Times must remind him gain about the said scam again on coming Monday.
Pertinent to mention, the Babu-Contractor nexus made Crores in the name of face lifting of the city. The contractors not only used sub-standard material but the work was not complete even after the offices moved to Jammu. |
