| Protest held by own party workers, Central high command takes tough note | | Pangs of anger again against Shabir's Health Ministry | | ET Report Jammu, Dec 14: Pangs of anger were once again witnessed against the senior Congress leader and Health Minister Shabir Ahmed Khan today at Udhampur raised by his own party workers led by the youth and NSUI wings for a host of aberrations in the department he heads, resentment pointed to what has been termed as political motives in the acts of CMO Udhampur. While accusing CMO Udhampur of acting as 'Chief Panthers Officer' and toeing the dictates of Panthers MLAs and ignoring Congress workers, protestors have accused him of corruption, medicine-purchase frauds and irregularities in selections of doctors/paramedics under NRHM. Though outburst of anger was essentially against CMO for a number of allegations and accusations made by the protestors, party workers and functionaries contend that while said officer is doing all this, Minister as the administrative head cannot be oblivious of such grave lapses nor can he be considered as simply naive to what the protestors described as grave 'political interference' whether in making transfers in the department at cost of attendance and efficiency in medical institutions or in purchase of medicines. Sources said the protest was held by the Congress workers over some lapses of serious nature made by the concerned officer allegedly at the behest of leaders of some political parties, more so in making transfers. Such acts amount not only to corrupt practices but have also left the Congress workers demoralized and disappointed. Since the protest was organised and held in very loud manner by the party unit at Udhampur, the outcry has gone too far to the New Delhi where the Central high command is learnt to have taken serious note of what is happening as far as the conduct of the Minister in not looking to aspirations and concerns of the party workers is concerned. Malpractices, bunglings in purchase material also being matter of serious concern on which higher ups are understood to be making fortunes, at the cost of health of the patients, sources added. Sources said apart of being the issue of corruption, quarters in New Delhi have taken serious note of the manner over the fact that such matters are widening already existing gap between the Government (the party as coalition Government's main ally) and the workers of the party, something which has cost the Congress heavily in Delhi and other States. High command is learnt to be disturbed over the fact that Congress Ministers are neither able to satisfy the workers nor maintain efficiency and transparency and dominate the bureaucracy which is likely to cost the party heavily. While such things are happening in some more departments being taken care of the Congress Ministers, the ire is pointed more against Shabir Khan, sources said adding that this has gone too far that the Health Minister has not been able to contain the malpractices or take corrective measures. |
