Jammu, Dec 14: Jammu & Kashmir Institute of Mathematical Sciences (JKIMS) organized Mathematical Festival - 2013 which was inaugurated by chief guest Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone in an impressive inaugural ceremony here today at MAM College, Jammu. The Secretary to Govt, Higher Education Department Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, IAS, was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone deliberated upon that the JK-Institute of Mathematical Sciences should be dedicated to research in mathematical sciences. "In joint collaboration with other research institutes should focus on imparting the best of education to students which will make them to compete and collaborate with their fellow students at both national and international level, he said. In his address, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, the Secretary to Govt., Higher Education Department said that the festival aims to provide a platform for the students to show their talent in Mathematics and the teachers will be trained to deal with latest soft wares of Mathematics. Dr Raj Shree Dhar, Nodal Officer, JKIMS, Jammu briefed gathering about objectives of the Institute and said that its establishment by Higher Education Department of J & K Government in 2013 is an immense significance for Vision 2020. Director Colleges Prof Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa, Principal MAM College Dr Romesh Chander, Principals from other colleges, Prof D. S Jamwal, HOD,Jammu University Dr Romesh Sharma & Dr K SCharak from Jammu University, Dr Rakesh from SMVDU, Heads of the departments of Mathematics from colleges, & other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. During today's proceedings a symposium on the topic 'Information Technology and Mathematics' was held in which 20 students from the various colleges participated. The adjuratory on the occasion were Santosh Kumari from JKIMS, Gourav from Jammu University, Smarty Gosani from SMVDU. The top three ranks were clinched by Shreya Sareen from GCW, Gandhinagar, Abhinav Salgotra from GGM Sc. College, Sunil Raskotra from Govt. College for Education respectively. A quiz on 'Great Mathematician Ramanujan' in which jury comprising Dr Narinder, Ms. Smarty, Gourav adjudged GCW Gandhi Nagar & GGM Sc. College were declared as Runner UP and Winner team respectively. Seminar on the topic 'A Perspective on the Status of Mathematics In J&K' was also held in which Dr K S Charak, Jammu University was the resource person. The programme was conducted by Dr Shelly Gupta and Dr Narinder Sharma and the formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Raj Shree Dhar, Nodal Officer. |
