Sports Reporter JAMMU, Dec 14: To achieve the self goal of training 1000 boys and girls in Sport Climbing within the next six months, the Mountaineering Association of J&K today organized first such coaching session at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here. Around 20 students of St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Barnai, near here learned the basics of the game in day-long coaching-cum-competition. The event was inaugurated by Principal of Sprawling Buds School, Puja Sharma. The activity was personally supervised by general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria, Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K. "The training was imparted by senior climbers, Shashi Kant Sharma, Aman Arora and Hardev Singh. Baby Asma Gul, a class third student of Sprawling Buds School, who recently participated in the North Zone Sub Junior Championship, won appreciation for her clean climbing moves, demonstrated the various climbing techniques of Sport Climbing," informed Khajuria. Dharmender Kumar was incharge teacher, who also participated in the camp along with the students. "Initially some of the budding climbers were a little withdrawn on seeing the imposing 40ft high fibre glass wall but the feeling of being in the safe hands of experienced climbers made them shrug off the hesitance and they enjoyed climbing on the wall," said Ram Khajuria adding that the camp was a great success as the participants showed keen interest to learn the techniques and finer points of the game, popularly known as Wall Climbing. Earlier, Nitin Barna who surpassed them all in strength, technique and rhythm, was declared 'the Find of the camp'. Barna, along with Aditya Padha, Chandan Deep Singh, Romeshwar and Aditya Kesar, has been selected for further specialized coaching which shall start shortly. Prominent among others present were Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma and Savita Khajuria as also Ritesh, Poonam Mishra, Rajni, Neha Gandotra and Simran. |
