After public protest PDD agrees to rollback inflated power bills
DC constitutes teams to check power theft

Kishtwar, Dec 14: After two days of continuous protest by the people over charging of electricity bills on inflated rates threatening law and order problem in Kishtwar town that has witnessed worst kind of communal clashes on August 9 this year, the Power Development Department (PDD) Kishtwar after the intervention of District Administration agreed to rollback the inflated power bills sent by the department to its consumers.
As soon as the office of the PDD open in the morning for routine business, Several people from different parts of Kishtwar town and its peripheries assembled inside the office of SE, PDD Kishtwar circle and held a strong protest and block the main road outside PDD Office Kishtwar for one hour disrupting vehicular movement on ever busy Shaheedi road Kishtwar.
The agitating people demanded immediate cancellation of inflated bills sent by the department to its customers. As the protest were going on, some police officer rush to the spot and tried to pacify the agitating people, but the protestors refuse to lift the road block and demanded that senior officials of the administration and PDD must need to come forward for talks.
Later on the direction of the DC Kishtwar, Baseer Ahmed Khan, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) and Dy. SP Shafayat rush to the spot and held a meeting with the agitating people inside the office chamber of Executive Engineer PDD Division Kishtwar.
After detailed discussion over the public concern, PDD officials agreed to rollback the inflated bills sent by the department to its consumers with the condition that the department will conduct fresh checking of metered connections to check the power theft and illegal hocking.
The people alleged that majority of the illegal connections were given by the linemen of the department itself and alleged that PDD ground staff is charging money from the illegal connection holders mostly consists of those people who had settled at Kishtwar from outside and fearing that in case they enrolled their electricity connection in the town, it might lead to the cancellation of their backward certificates and status as well for having in position of a house in Kishtwar town.
Later the DC held a meeting with the officials of PDD Kishtwar to check out the strategy to tackle the problem of power theft and illegal hocking.
After threadbare discussion over the issue, the DC constituted over half dozen teams headed by magistrate appointed by the administration, beside official of the PDD, police, JE and lineman of the concern area as its members.
He also directed the officials of the department to even register an FIRs against those involved in power theft.
