| Police cracks murder mystery, 2 held | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 14 : Police claimed to have cracked the murder of a retired government teacher who was allegedly murdered by her relatives for money.
SSP Jammu, Atul Goel, addressing media persons flanked by SP City North Yougal Manhas and SDPO North Kulbir Handa said that yesterday Peermitha police received a report that a women namely Nargis Hazi (61) wife of Shahid Chauhan of Gali Mohalla Baba Jivan Shah Shahidi Chowk has been missing since the afternoon of 11-12-2013.Immediately on receipt of this information, Peermitha police initiated efforts to trace the missing woman.
"During the enquiry police received information that the missing woman had been kidnapped by one Rahat Hafiz and his associates who have taken her to some unknown destination", SSP said. He further said that the team led including SI Mashqoor Ahmed SHO Peermitha police station and SI Javed Choudhary in-charge police post Gujjar Nagar under the supervision of Atul Goel, SSP Jammu, Youghal Manhas, SP City North and Kulbir Handa, SDPO City North arrested Rahat Hafiz, a computer engineer son of Dr. Hafiz-Ullah Munshi of Trikuta Nagar who during interrogation and questioning revealed that he on the pretext of taking her for a medical checkup, picked up her from her residence on December 11.
Once the deceased was in his car, he alongwith his associates working as servant with Rahat apparently coaxed her to consume an overdose of sleeping pills, which apparently resulted in her death. The exact cause of death will be established only after the result of autopsy is obtained.
After committing the murder, the accused carried the body of deceased to Dayalachak in the boot of his car and kept the car in the house of Mian Sohail for a night and disposed it off the other day with the help of one Mian Sohail and two 02 other associates. Police identified the associates of Rahat as Mian Sohail son of Mian Younis of Rajbagh Kathua who was also taken into custody where both Rahat and Sohal confessed to their involvement in the murder of the woman.
On confession of duo, the dead body of deceased was recovered. SSP further said that in the Prima-facie, the motive of the crime appears to be greed for money. The deceased was a retired teacher and well to do whose son and husband works in Dubai and they regularly used to sent large amounts of money to the deceased lady.
Accused Rahat Hafiz had taken Rs. 18 Lacs as advance money from the deceased to buy a plot for her as she wanted to dispose off her house at Gali Jeevan Shah Mohalla Shahidi Chowk. When the accused Rahat Hafiz did not buy the plot for deceased, she started demanding her advance money back from Rahat. On this in order to hush-up the advance money, Rahat Hafiz, hatched a plan to murder her. He further said that hunt to nab the two absconding persons is on. |
