| School buses continue to violate Apex Court directions | | | ET Report Jammu, Dec 26 : Many of the Private and government schools of Jammu are not following the guidelines laid by the Supreme Court for School Buses and continue to violate the rules. The death of the student in the school premises by the school bus last year, was highly condoled and condemned by the Jammuites, the traffic and Transport department came in action after the incident. But with the passing time the department seems to be taking it lightly again and the busses continue to violate the directions of the Supreme Court. Senior Traffic Police official said, "A team headed by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) was constituted to check the condition and documents of all the school buses.""A conductor is must for the heavy vehicle, especially for the School Bus, because the absence of the conductor was the main reason for the death of the DPS girl," he added. This team, accompanied by a Dy SP Traffic, had to ensure that all the school buses are in good condition, well trained driver/conductor, the vehicles are not more than 25 year-old and following all the guidelines given by the Supreme Court for School Buses. But Matadors and overloaded Vans can be seen anywhere in the city, carrying students and more than 15 students are being picked by a van, which has the maximum capacity of eight, including driver and the matadors, which are not permitted to be used as school bus are also carrying school students. |
