| As Govt promises skies for 'return' for KPs, temples crave for attention in Kashmir | | In Habba Kadal area 33 temples lie in shambles | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Dec 26: At a time when voices are getting louder for the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Kashmir valley the condition of temples suggest that lot of ground work needs to be done before this eventuality is realized. Hundreds of temples located across the length and breadth of the valley are in dilapidated conditions and need immediate repairs. In the Habba Kadal constituency of Srinagar district more than 30 temples are in shambles and need immediate attention so that they are repaired. The authorities are yet to awake from slumber and take corrective action so that the temples are repaired without any further delay. "I was highly surprised and amazed when the locals of Habba Kadal told me that 33 temples in the constituency are in shambles and need immediate repairs. I was more surprised when I came to know that the state government has virtually done nothing with respect to the repairs of the temples located in the Habba Kadal constituency," said Bharat Raina who intends to fight the 2014 assembly elections from Habba Kadal constituency as an independent candidate. Raina who is President, Kashmir Temple Caring Committee told Early Times that the temples have turned hub for the anti-social activities being carried out by anti-social elements. He said the drug addicts visit these temples and take drugs since they know that nobody would take action against them. "The state government more so the district administration should have taken immediate steps for repairs of the temples falling in the Habba Kadal constituency. This would come up as a great confidence building measure with regard to return of Kashmiri Pandits to valley. I wonder when the people at helm would wake up and take people oriented measures in order to bring about confidence among them," said Raina. Raina said that Habba Kadal constituency has been neglected by the successive governments and this has led to disillusionment among the people more so the youth. He said the roads in the entire constituency are in bad shape and are craving for attention from the concerned agencies. He said it would be better to say that Habba Kadal is under-developed with no development in sight. "Entire Habba Kadal constituency that spreads from Gaw Kadal to Dunkan Sangeen has been neglected and people are up in arms against the state government and the previous regimes as well. The people in general are disappointed with the functioning of present legislator, Shamim Firdous since she has devoted her attention to few pockets in the constituency," said Raina. Raina claims that he enjoys vote and support from the people of Habba Kadal constituency. He said that more than 200 youth of the constituency took part in the three meetings held as run up to 2014 assembly elections. He added that more such meetings would be held in near future with some youth already being entrusted with important responsibilities. |
