| J&K politicians have no need to emulate Kejriwal and his AAP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 4: A number of political leaders have started emulating the style of functioning of the new Delhi Chief Minister,Arvind Kejriwal, and the policies of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). A senior Congress leader belonging to Maharashtra has urged Chief Minister,Prithivi Raj Chavan to reduce power tariff on the pattern the AAP has introduced in Delhi.Uttarakhand Chief Minister,Vijay Bahuguna, has been visiting various localities in Dehradun for assessing the plight of shelterless people so that he too could emulate Kejriwal who has announced constructing 45 shelter sheds for shelterless people. Number of political parties have started emulating AAP's pattern of collecting funds from door to door collection. Will Omar Abdullah and his ministerial colleagues emulate some of the people friendly policies of AAP ? Omar and his team do not have means to follow Kejriwal's daring policies.Since Jammu and Kashmir has been reeling under acute power shortage Omar can never be in a position to reduce power tariff by 40 to 50 per cent.He may not be able to reduce power tariff even by five per cent or he may not have the stamina to impose five-year moratorium on power tariff rise. Since Jammu and Kashmir, which has majestic rivers flowing through length and breadth of the state,is torn by severe drinking water shortage there is no question for the NC led Government to emulate Kejriwal to supply 500 to 600 litres of water free per family. Omar and his ministerial colleagues cannot emulate Kejriwal by moving from one corner of Delhi to the other, from going to the office either in their personal cars or by metro without any security cover because of the threat perception from militants tormenting Kashmiri politicians. Possibly there is no need for Omar, his ministerial colleagues and leaders of other political parties to emulate Kejriwal. It is not only Omar but other politicians who know that if they voice anger against those demanding abrogation of Article 370 their job in wooing voters is done. For politicians in Jammu and Kashmir there are series of issues including Article 370,state's accession with India, separatism, Kashmir issue, militancy, greater autonomy, self-rule and other issues that have no link with peoples' welfare that they need to rake up for keeping their vote bank intact. If the NC has to cry loud while demanding restoration of internal autonomy and original spirit of Article 370 the BJP finds the need for demanding full integration between Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country which can be achieved by abrogating Article 370 ,separate constitution and state flag. Waging war against corruption is not an issue that deserves attention by senior political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir. And for senior NC and PDP leaders withdrawal of AFSPA is more important than Kejriwal's call for ending graft and red tape. For the Kashmir centric political leaders resumption of dialogue with separatists and India-Pakistan talks are more important that Kejriwal's resolve for building shelters for the shelterless people and for providing electricity and drinking water at cheaper rates. For the Jammu centric politicians end to regional discrimination and establishment of fresh delimitation commission is more important than Kejriwal's determination to observe complete austerity measures. Since Jammu and Kashmir state enjoys special status within the union of India slogans, demands and policies of political parties in the state are bound to be different from the demands and aspirations of politicians in rest of the country. |
