| KCCI seeks intervention of MSME ministry for creation of industrial estate at Ompora | | Pitches for grant of Rs 100 crores fund meant for revival of sick units | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCC&I) has urged the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises ministry to step in and ensure that the industrial estate is created at Ompora in Central Kashmir's Budgam district despite the reservations put forth by Indian Air Force. The issue along with host of other issues came up for discussion during a meeting between a delegation of KCC&I members and Madhav Lal, Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The KCC&I members urged the union secretary to use his good offices and motivate the IAF authorities so that the industrial estate is created at Ompora. "The industrial sector of Kashmir is looking forward to the creation of an industrial estate at Ompora, Budgam. However in this regard it has been reported that the Air Force Authorities have objected to the creation of the same. The non-creation of industrial estate would be a severe setback for our industrial sector. The intervention of the Ministry of MSME is sought in this regard," said the delegation of KCC&I members led by its President, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad. The IAF authorities at Srinagar have objected to the creation of the industrial estate at Ompora saying that the construction is coming up close to the security wall of Air Force Station, Srinagar. The IAF authorities say that the construction would act as hinder in the approach path of taking off or landing of an aircraft. It was only after this objection that KCC&I urged Madhav Lal to intervene in the matter and create the industrial estate. The KCC&I delegation pitched for the grant of Rs. 100 crores fund for revival of sick units in Kashmir as was recommended by the Prime Minister's Task Force report on MSME. The Chamber delegation demanded that the fund be allocated to Jammu & Kashmir Development Finance Corporation for implementation so that they are in a position to revive sick units based on a appropriate model by taking over old loans under OTS by banks and providing the both term loan and working loan and also dovetailing it with the state scheme for revival and rehabilitation. "With the view of exploiting raw materials located in the backward regions by promoting local industry through clusters of industrial units in identified thrust areas like Marble/Granite, Food Processing, Textile, Leather Processing, Handicraft, Handloom, Mineral and information Technology and for the implementation of these identified clusters the creation of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPVs) will be facilitated by KCC&I which has not been done so far," said KCC&I delegation. The chamber delegation expressed surprise and concern that members associated with the handicrafts and handloom sector having valid registrations of Handicrafts Department/Handloom Department are not being considered for MSME schemes. It urged the Ministry of MSME to consider the Handicraft/Handloom Department registration at par with the registration of the District Industries Centre. "KCC&I expresses concern at its non-inclusion in the National Board of MSME as it would have enabled us to more effectively raise issues regarding this important sector. The KCC&I is keen on organizing visits of trade delegations to Central Asia for assistance in market development for our members. In this regard, the KCC&I seeks the intervention of the Ministry of MSME for facilitation of the same," said KCC&I delegation. |
