| Only 3 out of 28 ventilators operational in GMC, Jammu | | RTI query reveals pathetic condition of premier hospital | | early times report Jammu, Jan 4: In reply to an RTI application filed by one Deepak Sharma, the Government Medical College Jammu has admitted that out of 28 ventilators available in GMC, only 3 are in working condition and remaining 25 ventilators are non functional from the last more than 3 years . Sharing details, Deepak said that it is a matter of serious concern that on one side our state is being awarded for being no. 1 in providing healthcare services, on the other side condition of the ventilators in the prestigious Government Medical College narrates sordid saga of administrative apathy and incompetence. The activist stated that the incidents of scuffle between attendantsof patients and doctors are reported from time to time and many of these can be attributed to the non availability of the ventilators in the GMC. Many patients have lost their lives in road accidents and injuries due to shelling from across the border as many such patients do not get ventilators which are imperative to save their lives. The activist demanded that the health minister should take a note of this and a fast track mechanism should be adopted to replace or repair the defunct ventilators so as to save the precious human lives. Pertinently, acting on the complaint of the activist, the State Information Commission in an order no. SIC/J/Comp/70/2013/382 has directed the authorities of the GMC, Jammu to regularly upload the information regarding the availability of the ventilators on the website of Government Medical College, Jammu.
