| Job aspirants protest against SSRB in Srinagar | | | Mustansir Srinagar, Jan 4: For the first time in the history of the state's lone recruiting agency, the State Services Recruitment Board, hundreds of job aspiring candidates today took to the streets in Srinagar alleging the board for short listing influential and blue-eyed candidates for interview against different posts advertised early last year. Shouting slogans against the Board and the state government, hundreds of job aspirants who had applied for different posts, observed a sit-in outside the SSRB Srinagar office at Barzullah alleging that the board authorities have shortlisted the blue-eyed candidates recommended by the ruling elite for interviews and have dropped the meritorious and deserving ones who had pinned their hopes on the Board. "This is very unfortunate that the SSRB has also gone BOPEE way now and has lost the sanctity of guarding the rights of the meritorious from average background" the protesting job aspirants told Early Times. They said the board has lost credibility and the job seekers have no faith in this institution now for it has done the same thing which BOPEE did in last couple of years. "It would be in fitness of the things if a probe is ordered against the board authorities for ignoring the meritorious" the protesting candidates said. They said that SSRB had published an advertisement notice in March 2013 for the posts of Assistant Handicraft Officer, Accountant Assistant, and Store-Keeper. The screening test for such posts was conducted in September 2013. The protesters alleged those who were dropped in Screen Test have not been given any reason or justification for their disqualification thought all of them is highly qualified. "We want to know about our points that we secured in the Screening Test. What was the cut off and on what basis the aspirants were selected," said the protesting candidates. They alleged that former chairman BOPEE, Mushtaq Ahmed Peer was appointed as consultant of SSRB by the government and his role in short listing the candidates for the interview cannot be ruled out. The J&K chief minister failed on every front whether providing security to its people in valley as well in Jammu region. More than 100 youth got killed in 2010 and communal clashes left people to suffer in Kishtwar but the chief minister was mum on improving the condition. In state Assembly, his only focus remained to attack the opposition leaders rather putting his own house into order. The economy of state has gone down, unemployment has increased, crime has increased and stability is nowhere. As the state has entered into the election year, the people need a government which could address their daily needs and put end to corruption, which is not possible under NC rule. |
