Jammu, Feb 10: Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association held a meeting in which members alleged neglect of community and demanded reservation in higher studies to the Batwal community. In a meeting held at village Sui on Sunday, the members alleged that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is ignoring Batwal Community people as a series of representations submitted to the Governor NN Vohra and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, yet has fetched no relief to them. Members in this meeting demanded that families of the persons from amongst the Scheduled Caste communities, who occupy high positions or have been successful in their filed, should be left out of the reservation system, as it is only because of them the intended benefits of the reservation system have been diluted and only a few downtrodden from the Scheduled Castes, can take advantage of it, they said. While addressing the meeting, speakers said that Government has done nothing for the Batwal community people, which constitutes large segment of population in the State. "Their community has not been given any representation in any forum by the Government, he said, adding that sub-categorization of scheduled castes is the only solution to their grievances. Association also demanded holiday of the birthday of the Guru Gyagi in Distrct Jammu under J&K Negotiable Instrument Act by a notification in the official gazette as has been done in case of other Gurus which falls on February 14.
