Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 10: Habitual of 'putting foot in mouth', Congress Member Parliament (MP) Choudhary Lal Singh is in dock for allegedly taking the name of compliment in the ex-Health Minister Shabir Khan's molestation case.
According to a news portal, the complainant lady doctor has filed defamation case against the Congress MP. In a letter issued in Srinagar today, the lady doctor has said that she has filed a complaint against the Congress' Member Parliament (MP) on February 8 for "defaming her character and disclosing her identity against Supreme Court guidelines".
She has said "Some persons are commenting in a way which is very painful. Such incidents already torment women in our social set-up. It needs enormous courage to raise a voice against such crime. Not only my identity was disclosed but the events were discussed negatively, which meant rubbing salt into my wounds." According to the news portal, the written complaint also includes the names of few journalists, editors and printers of some prominent newspapers.
The letter was read out by representatives of several doctors' and health employees' associations in Srinagar. "I deplore the news item wherein some leader unfortunately defamed my character. It is derogatory and malicious remarks. Such statements are meant to weaken my case and instil confusion such reports could provide reprieve and escape route to the guilty," she alleged.
The doctor said she has stood up and filed the complaint so that women feel safe at their workplace. "I firmly stand by my complaint and am looking forward to delivery of justice. I appeal all to repose trust in the institutions of justice and stay away from politicising the issue," she said.
The lady doctor has filed an FIR against ex-Health minister Shabir Khan. The accused, who is a Congress MLA from Rajouri in Jammu, had resigned on February 8 after his party asked him to do so. J&K police filed a case of molestation against Khan on last Thursday only after a local court intervened.
The doctor, working in a hospital in the Valley alleged that she got repeated calls from the minister's office to come to the secretariat on the pretext of discussing the announcements by Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during his recent visit to Srinagar. She alleged she was made to wait inside a cubicle and the minister joined her there and passed objectionable remarks and made sexual advances.
